Music for a Higher Purpose: Why I Sing

23 September 2026

Music has always been more than just singing for me. It is a gift that I believe God has entrusted to me, and with that gift comes a responsibility to use it meaningfully.

My journey in music has taken me through church ministry, choral direction, teaching, musical leadership and formal performances. Each experience has shaped my understanding that music can do much more than entertain. It can encourage, comfort, inspire, teach and lead people into an awareness of God.

This is why I describe my musical journey as “Music for a Higher Purpose.”

For me, excellence and faith should not be separated. Whether I am leading a choir, directing a musical presentation, teaching music or standing before an audience with a pianist, I want the music to be delivered with preparation, sincerity and excellence.

My Christian faith is at the heart of that purpose. I believe the ability to sing and make music is a gift, and I desire to use that gift in service to Christ while also bringing beauty, meaning and excellence to every occasion.

There are moments when a song is simply beautiful. There are other moments when a song becomes a message — a reminder of hope, faith, gratitude, courage or God’s faithfulness. Those are the moments I value most.

So, when I sing, my goal is not simply to be heard. I want the music to leave something behind: encouragement in the heart, a thought worth remembering, or perhaps a renewed appreciation of the God who gives us the gift of music.

That is what “Music for a Higher Purpose” means to me.
